Learning Outcome 3 ~ Reading

My form of active reading has improved a lot over this course of the year. I normally have done nothing for reading and just read things because I had to. Now i have started writing in the margins. What I do is if I find something interesting, confusing or something that I disagree or agree with I will mark it then write my comments in the margins. From Susan Gilroy I like when she says “Mark up the margins of your text with words and phrases: ideas that occur to you, notes about things that see important to you, reminders of how issues in a text may connect with class discussion or course theme.” I really like this because everything she says is what I do when marking up my readings. I like this because then I can look back and know what is going on in the text just by my writing. I really will mark anything that catches my eye or makes me go back and think about I went in with the idea that I can’t mark too much. I think this tells me that my abilities have the foundation of knowing how to be an active reader. But with that said still has a lot of room to grow. I still need to be able to break text down and really understand what some authors are trying to say. That is something I still need to improve on.
